HARTLEPOOL OPINION POLL

Labour will easily retain Peter Mandelson’s former seat of Hartlepool, according to an opinion poll tonight.

The NOP poll for Channel 4 News puts Labour on 53% – 33 points ahead of second place challengers the Liberal Democrats.

With by-election successes in Leicester South and Brent East, as well as losing Birmingham Hodge Hill by just 460 votes, the Lib Dems have high hopes of causing another major upset.

However, the poll is also bad news for the Conservatives as they finish in third place, just four points ahead of UKIP.

The poll, commissioned by NOP, canvassed 1,000 people in the constituency between September 10 and 13.
